Tschu the Allel

This is Tschu the Allel, a character from my Autumn of the Empire of the Thousand Petal Throne setting for Evan Rowland and Hannah Shaffer’s upcoming roleplaying game Noirlandia.

A respected member of the Order of House Ennueh and member of the High Court of the Thousand Petal Throne, sits for a portrait. The facial tattoos indicate a particular set of technical skills, while the nose ring is a gift from a lover of whom Tschu will not speak. Tschu's large eyes are the results of generations of careful genetic engineering; an outwardly visible indication of the subtle and secret ways that the Ennueh can manipulate the processes of life.

In case you haven’t guessed (bless your hypothetical heart), the painting is not actually mine. It’s my manipulation of a painting by Agnolo di Cosimo il Bronzino. The original depicts Piero De Medici Il Gottoso (which is a pretty lousy sobriquet — it means “the gouty”).

The Empire of the Thousand Petal Throne is more top-down than Renaissance Italy, but with its backstabby, personal politics, it feels more like the constant low-level conflict of the Italian city states than a functioning empire.

  1. Thanks! The tactility of an Apple Pencil made the process really fun, like I could draw right on a classic.
