Hi all,

I've settled on a logo, but everything else is very much in progress.

I'm hoping to make the game's instructions (of which there are currently many) easily flip-through-able. I'd rather not make readers actually read full paragraphs of text; I want this to be skimming-friendly. Accordingly, I've put up demos of 6 interior page layouts.

http://shrikedesign.com/games/…..demos.html

Are they skim-friendly?

I'm also curious how the cover slots in among other RPGs (will it blend in too much?), and how the back cover engages a customer.

I expect my target audience is people who are not quite satisfied with OD&D & CoC, some of whom will want to use a new game whole, while others may be looking for subsystems to patch their current play. Thus the "bullet points"-style features list on the back.

Thanks!
-David

Dave, I've got some quick comments, then I'm going to close the doors for a month. Do whatever you want with these comments.

  • I can skim it very comfortably.
  • I can understand the different faces representing different roles.
  • The cover is an homage to Vampire, which might be a different market than you're shooting for. If it's not an homage to Vampire, that's how I read it.
  • Paragraphs of centered text are objectively hard to read, as on the back cover. 6-12 words per line, mixed case, flush left (justified or not, depending on your needs) is the easiest.
  • The text on the back cover is almost all the same size, weight, color, and placement. My eyes don't know where to rest.
  • Likewise, I find myself skipping Lendrhald because I don't see any hooks.

Start a new thread in a month about this, and we'll discuss it then, including any changes you might have made in the meantime.
