I hoped to have the whole thing done for this, but (a) the migration and (b) turns out the game needs a whole new chapter I haven't written yet. Anyway, here's where the layout's at now:

Something about the first page of each chapter looks funny to me. I expect the chapter header to be the highest element on the page, but the right hand column is higher. Is that usual?
The page with the Hx grid on it looks a little funny to me too. Have you tried making the grid as tall as a column is wide?
This is just my impressions – I don't actually know what I'm talking about.

GOD DAMN IT THIS FORUM EATS MY POSTS ALL THE FUCKING TIME
So:
Simon, these are spreads. The right “column” is the right page.
Vincent, the illustrations on page 37 flirt with the right edge, but then blueball it. What happens when they go past the edge? What happens when they retreat from it?

Vincent, dead on.
I'm liking the new layout. The one question I have is about the chapter “splash” pages being on the right hand side. That felt a little confusing to me, but it might look different in an actual book.

Yes! Awesome!
The righthand splash is a nice effect. Easy to find when flipping through, but you start the chapter with a spread.
Hey, I have an annoying idea for you: You know how it's not reall “Rx”, but rather, a long R with a cross through it, probably coming from either Jupiter
or Harekhte
What if you made up a symbol for Hx?

Hm. That IS annoying.
But really I'm posting to say: I solved the mini-portraits last night! The answer was to bring them back into the text, away from the edge. Unforly they're at home and I'm at work so I can't put them online just now.
